Global VLBI solution 2017b

Presented here is the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan's 2017b global solution. The Batch SOLVE solution used all available multi-baseline VLBI observations at 8.4 GHz (X-band) and 2.2 GHz (S-band) from April, 1980 through 31 Aug, 2017. This included a total of 6082 diurnal sessions. The BATCH control file gsi2017b.cnt along with databases given in gsi2017b.arc were used to generate this solution. The output spool file is gsi2017b.spl.gz. Single combined least square solution was done.

In the sessions after the 3.11 Tohou Earthquake, TSUKUB32, VERAMZSW, KASHIM34, KASHIM11, KOGANEI and USUDA64 are not included in the stations for the global parameter estimation due to co-seismic and post-seismic motions.

Source positions

Positions of 1998 sources were estimated as global parameters. A source was required to have at least 6 good observations in at least one session. Three gravitational lenses, 0218+357/0218+35A/0218+35B, 1830-21A/1830-21B/1830-211, and 1422+231 were excluded. The positions of 39 sources were estimated as arc parameters (a position for each session). These are the ICRF2 'special handling' sources that showed the most instability. Position of all other sources were estimated in each session individually.

Station positions and velocities

Positions of 165 stations and their velocities were estimated as global parameters. Station positions are given on epoch 2014.01.01

Earth orientation parameters

Pole coordinates X, Y, UT1 angle, and their rate, daily correction to the nutation in longitude and nutation in obliquity were estimated for each session separately.

Comparison of EOP series

Comparison with IERS C04 series shows random noise with slight linear trend with scatter comparable with the accuracy of VLBI EOP series, except UT1 where the noise of IERS C04 series is dominating.
